How Your IELTS Score Is Calculated
Your IELTS result is based on four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each skill is scored from 0 to 9.
Overall Band Score: add all four skill scores, divide by 4, then round to the nearest 0.5.
Example: Listening 6.5 + Reading 6.5 + Writing 5.0 + Speaking 7.0 = 6.25 β Final Band = 6.5
What Your Score Means
5.0β5.5: You can communicate in familiar situations, but you may still need support with accuracy, vocabulary, and confidence.
6.0β6.5: You are becoming a more independent English user and may be closer to meeting entry requirements for some study or training pathways.
7.0+: You have a stronger level of English and may be better prepared for higher-level academic, professional, or migration goals.
Entry requirements vary depending on the institution, course, and visa purpose.
